Pro-Khalistan leader Pannun booked for threatening Amritsar temple officials

Pro-Khalistan Leader Gurpatwant Singh Pannun Booked for Threatening Amritsar Temple Officials

Slumdog breaking story:

In a recent development, Gurpatwant Singh Pannun, the leader of the banned organization Sikhs for Justice, has been booked by the Punjab police on charges of promoting enmity between different groups on grounds of religion or race. The case stems from a social media video in which Pannun purportedly issued threats to the temple management of the Golden Temple in Amritsar.

Charges and Legal Action:

Gurpatwant Singh Pannun has been booked under various sections of the Indian Penal Code, including Section 153A (promoting enmity between different groups on grounds of religion, race), Section 153B (making or publishing statements that promote disharmony or hatred between different religious, racial, language, or regional groups), and Section 505 (making, publishing, or circulating any statement, rumor, or report). Additionally, provisions of the IT Act have also been invoked in this case.

The police took action based on the content of Pannun's social media video, where he not only warned the temple management to shut its gates but also demanded the handover of keys to the Golden Temple administration.

Veiled Threats to Political Leaders:

This incident is not isolated, as Pannun, on January 16, issued veiled threats to Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann and police chief Gaurav Yadav. In an email sent to journalists and through videos, Pannun urged gangsters in the state to join Sikhs for Justice and prevent political leaders from attending the Republic Day parade.

Comparisons and Provocations:

Pannun's communication included controversial comparisons, equating Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann with former Punjab Chief Minister Beant Singh, who was assassinated in 1995. He also drew parallels between Punjab Director General of Police Gaurav Yadav and the late officer Gobind Ram, who was killed in a bomb blast in 1990.

Daring the Prime Minister:

In one of the videos, Pannun dared Prime Minister Narendra Modi to attend the Republic Day parade without security. Such provocative statements add to the gravity of the situation, raising concerns about public safety and security.

Call for Gangster Participation:

Another alarming aspect of Pannun's messages involves urging gangsters in Punjab to join Sikhs for Justice, participate in a referendum for Khalistan, and prevent Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann from hoisting the Tricolor on Republic Day. In an email to journalists, Pannun went further, encouraging gangsters to seek recognition as "shaheeds (martyrs)."

The booking of Gurpatwant Singh Pannun reflects the legal repercussions of his provocative statements and alleged threats. The situation underscores the need for vigilance and prompt action to address any activities that could potentially disturb communal harmony and pose a threat to public safety. Authorities are expected to conduct a thorough investigation to ensure the maintenance of law and order in the region.
